Tea Farms & Agricultural Cooperatives

Most independent farmers operate their own processing factory and may have their own finishing equipment or outsource the finishing step of their teas. This list includes farms, farm + factory operations, and farming cooperatives, so not may not always represent a "single estate".

  1. Azuma Tea Garden - Wazuka, Kyoto. Family-operated (Azuma family). Partially certified organic, other tea fields are awaiting certification. No pesticides used in production. Organic fertilizer only.
  2. Ashigaracha Labo - Ogikubo, Odawara, Kanagawa. Cultivating Yabukita tea leaves without the use of pesticides with her son and the NPO's supporters.
  3. Dokodemosora Tea Farm - Wakayama. Artisanal (Individual farmer: Dai Oizumi). No pesticides used in production, organic fertilizer only.
  4. Hachimanjyu Yakushima Tea - Yakushima Island, Kagoshima. Family-operated (Watanabe Family) tea farm & factory (buying from other farmers). Certified organic.
  5. Haruo Ogose - Shizuoka. Artisanal (Individual farmer). No pesticides, no fertilizer used in cultivation.
  6. Higashiyamacha - Higashiyama, Shizuoka. Agricultural Coop.
  7. Hinokuni Kumamoto - Kumamoto. Family-operated (Fujisako family). Certified organic.
  8. JA Kagoshima Chagyo - Kagoshima. Agricultural Coop.

  10. Kaneroku Matsumoto Tea Garden - 3rd generation tea farmer Hiroki Matsumoto has been experimenting widely with smoking his black teas.
  11. Kuma Tea Gardens - Operated by the Kuma family in mountains above Yame City, Fukuoka, farmer Masahiro Kuma won the 2017 Minister's Award in the Gyokuro category of the National Tea Competition--literally the best gyokuro farmer in 2017.
  12. Kunitomo Tea Garden - Family owned tea farm and factory creating tea from wild tea plants, and cultivating fields derived from those plants.
  13. Kurihara Tea Farm - One of our oldest partners, the Kurihara family are award winning specialists in Gyokuro tea, based in the picturesque Yabe Village, Yame, Fukuoka.
