An Everyday Breakfast with a Japanese Touch
Sometimes it's nice to make breakfast feel a little more special without spending extra time in the kitchen. This Green Tea and Kinako Breakfast Parfait is a simple twist on an everyday yogurt parfait, layered with creamy yogurt, crunchy granola, and fresh oranges for a breakfast that feels both refreshing and comforting. What makes this parfait unique are two classic Japanese ingredients that pair beautifully with yogurt.
Green Tea Powder

Green tea powder is usually made by finely ground sencha tea leaves. It has the refreshing astringency and clean, crisp taste that is characteristic of sencha. Since green tea powder lets you enjoy the whole tea leaf, you naturally get all of its catechins—often associated with health benefits like supporting metabolism and fat-burning.
For this recipe, we used this green tea powder. Just as brewed sencha green tea can taste different depending on where it's grown and how it's produced, green tea powders also each have their own unique flavor and character. Trying different varieties and finding your favorite is part of the fun.
Kinako

Kinako is a powder made from roasted soybeans. The roasting process brings out the beans' natural sweetness and adds a toasty, nutty aroma, making it a classic ingredient that has long been enjoyed in Japanese sweets and home cooking. Some people even describe its flavor as similar to peanut butter. It adds a gentle, comforting richness to simple yogurt. For this recipe, we used this kinako.
