As a social venture, MATCHA LATTE MEDIA aims to put Japanese culture into the hands of consumers around the world. Our first step is to provide the expanding $90 billion global tea industry with access to Japanese tea producers through Yunomi.life, a curated marketplace. Expanding horizontally into tea ware, tableware, interior furnishings, and gourmet cooking ingredients, we intend to bring artisanal Japanese producers onto the world stage by utilizing e-commerce technologies and developing efficient logistics supply chains.

How we got started
Matcha Latte Media KK was launched in January 2012 as a result of founder Ian Chun’s work helping to launch the international business of Kyoto Obubu Tea Farms. Our mission is to put Japanese culture into the hands of consumers around the world. We feel that many products, including Japanese tea, gain much of their value from an understanding of the culture and society behind them, not simply from their physical qualities. Many of these cultural products in Japan are produced by small-scale producers, and we hope to bring them to global markets by providing an e-commerce marketing service. However, the Japanese tea industry called to us, and as a product so central to Japanese culture, we fell in love.
In 2013 we pivoted from a consultancy into a tea business with the Yunomi.life website. In 2014, we entered the Open Network Accelerator to attempt a pivot into a true marketplace, but discovered the difficulties in operating a cross-border marketplace with suppliers using one language and customers using another.
In 2015, we pivoted back to a standard e-commerce model to build a stable business while continuing to gather suppliers and building an extensive catalog of merchandise centered around tea.
