Women in Tea

Women are heavily involved in tea agriculture, but too often stay behind the scenes—
labeled "farmers' wives", not farmers themselves.

LET'S CHANGE THAT.

Get to know the people behind tea

Furuichi Seicha

Rooted in the tea-growing region of Chiran, Kagoshima, Furuichi Seicha is a family-owned tea producer with a passion for crafting exceptional Japanese tea. Founded in 1948 by Noboru Furuichi, the business began with a humble bicycle tea-selling venture before growing into its own tea-finishing factory, built on his vision of creating better-quality tea.

Today, President Shoji Furuichi carries on his father's legacy, overseeing the production, blending, and refinement of teas that showcase the distinctive character of Kagoshima. With a dedication to quality and craftsmanship, Furuichi Seicha brings together generations of experience and a deep appreciation for Japanese tea.

In 2018, the family opened Ocha no Sawaki, their shop and cafƩ in Minami-Kyushu, offering visitors a welcoming place to discover and enjoy Japanese tea.
