Water caltrop is an aquatic plant that grows in lakes. Hishicha, water caltrop tea, is made from its roasted seeds. This particular water caltrop tea comes from a producer called Inabishi in Fukushima perfecture. Their water caltrop is collected from lake Inawashiro, a beautiful lake surrounded by mountains. The plant spreads quickly and easily takes over lakes. Because of this the local government is encouraging harvesting it to protect the balance of the lakes natural environment, and Inabishi uses its tea production to help in this effort.
The flavour of the tea is toasty, smooth, gently sweet, and very comforting. If you like sobacha you are quite sure to enjoy hishicha too! Hishicha does not contain any caffeine so it can be enjoyed any time of the day. The balanced flavour makes it easy to drink and also to combine with both sweet and salty foods.
The decoration attached to the package is a dried water caltrop, it is not edible, please do not eat. The edges of the decoration can be sharp, please be careful!
