Literally the "poison blocking plant", dokudami herbal tea is made from the dried leaves of the plant and is generally drunk in Japan for detox purposes. It is often used as an ingredient in kampo medicine (traditional Eastern medicine, which is regulated in Japan by law). More about this herb at the Wikipedia page.

DISCLAIMER: While the benefits of any herb are easily searchable on the internet, side effects are often not as merchants attempt to sell their products. We would prefer that you drink any herbal tea for its flavor as well as any supposed health benefits, and report any known side effects.

While dokudami herbal tea is commonly sold in Japan in supermarkets, side effects reported include increased levels of potassium in your blood (hyperkalemia) and increase levels of GOT and GPT in your liver.
