Master dyers at Kyoto-based Maeda Senko have created the Shikisai (“colors of the seasons”) series of tenugui hand cloths to express each month of the year.

The Tanabata or Star Festival is celebrated on July 7th. Children in particular write their wishes on a slip of paper and tie it to bamboo in hopes they will come true.
