Update Aug 1: Donations are now closed thru Yunomi. We collected $230 from you which will be converted at today’s rate to ¥25,752, and added to the amount Yunomi is contributing (5% of our July revenue up to ¥100,000). Thank you to all who participated, and if you would like to donate more, please visit Peace a Winds Japan’s website.

Update July 20: 223 persons confirmed dead due to the flooding across 14 prefectures, 1044 landslides across 31 prefectures.

In the first week of July 2018, heavy rains caused flooding and landslides across a wide area of Western Japan. National broadcaster NHK reports more than 200 people are dead, 650 muddy landslides, 140,000 homes and buildings damaged, 240,000 homes without water. Millions were evacuated last week, and many still remain in evacuation centers (most often local elementary schools).

“Why have record rains been so deadly in Japan?” - Japan Today

We have chosen to donate 5% of July revenue up to 100,000 Japanese yen to Peace Winds Japan, an organization dedicated disaster rescue and relief. More specifically we will be donating to the project that helps this disaster (Peace Winds Japan allocates 85% of these specific donations to the disaster projects, and 15% to administrative costs).

Videos of the rescue and relief work conducted by this organization can be viewed here on Youtube, and on their website (their Japanese news feed has many more photos of their work).

We would like to invite you to add to this amount by donating $10 (about 1120 yen, we will pay for transaction fees) in your order.

Donations will be accepted until the end of July at Yunomi. You can also donate to them directly via PayPal on their website.
