Description
The simplest creation, when pursued to perfection, is perhaps the most complicated. When we made a request to Cha Ginza to help us find an artist who could create an ultra minimalist shiboridashi kyusu, we had no idea how difficult it would be.
According to artist Junzo Maekawa, nearly all tea pots have a lip upon which the lid rests. Because of that lip, the lid just needs to be level, and there is as much leeway as to the size of the lid as the lip allows. Creating this pot without the lip was a challenge, and a demonstration of skill.
Left unglazed, Maekawa-san's shiboridashi is meant to age with its owner, colored by the tea it creates.
