While matcha is often promoted for its high level of catechin and the fact that you drink the whole leaf, in fact on average matcha has less catechin (antioxidants) than unshaded green tea because the shading in tea leaf meant for matcha limits the amount of catechin produced in order to reduce the bitterness of the matcha.
Compared to the 50 mg of catechin per gram of matcha, this organic green tea powder product from Mitsui Meicha (one of the largest producers of tea in Japan after Ito En) has 5400 mg per 40 grams of green tea powder or 135 mg per gram.
Made 100% from green tea grown in Japan, on fields that have not used synthetic fertilizers nor synthetic pesticides for at least three years according to standard practice for certified organic tea.
