I've had a mint + hojicha blend previously that I wasn't overly fond of, so I wasn't sure how I was going to enjoy this one. Thankfully it's really quite nice! Overall quite tasty, and while I'm happy the mint takes a backseat I find it just a bit too muted. It really gets lost between the stronger roasty notes of the houjicha and chocolate.
I don't take my houjicha with milk, but as the instructions say it's recommend that way I gave it a try with my second cup. It's wonderfully creamy this way. It becomes very nutty and the chocolate is absolutely decadent. The mint gets almost completely drown out, however. It's a delicious tea but I think I would either prefer a straight chocolate houjicha, or a bit more mint added to the blend. view less
I’m pretty picky when it comes to chocolate teas, so I was unsure whether to order this one at all. In the end, I figured a mint houjicha still sounded pretty tasty, so even if the choc...view moreolate isn’t to my liking, I’ll still have that combination. The base is the same mix of roasted stems and leaves, and there are big pieces of peppermint along with a few tiny blue flower petals. Oddly enough, for some reason they felt the need to add tiny silver sphere sprinkles to this tea. I’m not sure what they’re meant to add… Dry scent is mostly roasted with sweet chocolate and a little bit of mint.
For some reason, this cup steeped up much darker than the Grapefruit & Honey version. The aroma is strongly roasted with a tiny bit of chocolate. Hmm, this one is less impressive than the other two flavors I’ve tried so far. I can taste some mint, but even that is quite mild next to the houjicha itself. I honestly don’t think I taste chocolate at all, even if I concentrate on it. So mostly this is just a plain (but high-quality) houjicha with a bit of peppermint added. Not bad, but disappointing nonetheless. view less
